In 1820, James, Jane and children were enumerated in Allegheny

Nancy McFate (see #19), petitioned the court to sell land of James
Miller, whose estate was not sufficient to cover debts.962
In 1850, Jane (McFate) Miller was living in Cherrytree Township with
children Robert and Jane Miller.963 In 1860, Jane was living with her son Robert Miller and granddaughter Mary Shreve. In 1870, Jane

Morrison (see #2 of “Morrisons” and #3 of “Lytles” section in The
Oil Creek Flemings of Venango County, Pennsylvania, with related
families, Volume 2).
The children of William and Isabella (McFate)
Lytle were
(a) John Lytle.

(e) Elizabeth Lytle (McDonald).

See #4 of Lytles for information on William and Isabella (McFate) Lytle and their descendants.
In
1837, William and Isabella and family were living in Venango
County. They eventually moved from the Plumer area of Cornplanter
Township, Venango County, to Fairfield Township, Crawford County,
Pennsylvania. Isabella (McFate) Lytle was born in Westmoreland County,
Pennsylvania. Her parents had two daughters (Mary McFate and Jane
McFate) born in eastern Pennsylvania or Delaware; then the family moved
to the Greensburg area, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, for a
short time, where Isabella and Joseph McFate were born, before coming
to Venango County; and, according to material in a 2 December 1996
email from Marlene Burkheimer976 of Ames, Iowa,
settling initially “on the farm now [1888] known as Widow McClintock or
Steele farm, about three miles from Oil City. After a few years they
[Elizabeth’s parents] moved north about two miles and settled in the

born 9
January 1802 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; died 15 January 1879
in Cochranton, Wayne Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania; buried in

Margaret McKnight was a sister of Sarah McKnight, born 1813,
who married Culbertson McClintock—#68 of “McClintocks.” Joseph McFate’s
will was recorded in Crawford County, 10 March 1879, Crawford County
Will Book E., page 180. He mentioned wife Margaret and sons Robert
(“eldest son”), David, Daniel, Joseph and William A. McFate. William
was to receive “all my land.” There was no mention of daughters.
According to McFate et al. (1982), page 67: “Joseph McFate was
brought to Venango County, Pa., as a child of 2. He farmed near Plumer,
Pa., until oil was struck on his land on the banks of Cherry Run, a
small tributary of Oil Creek. He transferred the property to two of his
sons, who then sold it to an oil company for $80,000 . . .” Joseph and
brother John were the recipients in the 1860 quit claim document
pertaining to the heirs of Robert McFate, see above.
Joseph was a farmer. In 1850, the family lived in Cornplanter Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania (census page 96). Joseph, Margaret and large family were in Cochranton, Crawford County in 1860 (page 136) and 1870 (page 146), at which time the only children still at home were Joseph S. and William A. McFate.

Samuel lived in Cornplanter Township, Venango County. His will

Samuel G. McFate,
born October 1846 in Pennsylvania; died 1928; married Nancy Christy; born circa 1848 in Ireland; died 6 March 1892. Samuel was a farmer. In 1880, Samuel, Nancy and children John E. and Mary Etta were living in Cornplanter Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania (census page 448). By 1900, Nancy had died and Samuel, head of household, widower, was living with his married daughter Mary E. (Etta) Leach and her children in Cornplanter Township (page 14A). Mary E. was listed as "wife;" so probably her husband Frank was inadvertently not recorded. In 1910. Samuel and daughter Florence were living with Frank and Mary Etta Leach and family in Sugarcreek Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania (page 24A).
Children of Samuel G. and Nancy (Christy) McFate (all born in Pennsylvania):
(a) John E. McFate; born circa 1872.
(b) Mary Etta McFate; born February 1874; married Frank C.Leach; born circa 1875 in Pennsylvania. The family lived initially in Cornplaneter Township with Etta's father, Samuel, but by 1910 had moved to Sugarcreek Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania (page 24A), where Frank was enumerated as a pumper, oil wells. Etta's father was also living in the family in 1910. All children were still enumerated with the family in 1920, in Sugarcreek Township, where Frank was listed as an oil producer, own wells (page 24B). In 1930, Frank, Etta and unmarried daughter Ardelle were living in Sugar Creek Township, Reno area, where Frank continued to be enumerated as an oil producer (page 5B). Children of Frank and Mary Etta (McFate) Leach: (i) Ardelle McFate, born circa 1901in 1930, Ardelle, single and living with her parents, was enumerated as a secretary for a gas company; (ii) Doanld E. McFate, born circa 1903; and (iii) Byron W. McFate, born circa 1906.
(c) Albert R. McFate, born February 1878; In 1900, Albert, single, was living as a roomer in Oil City, Pennsylvania (page 2A), where he was enumerated as an engine machinist. According to McFate (1982), Albert did not marry; he died 16 August 1975.
(d) Earl C. McFate; born March 1880, died 22 February 1952; married Agnes Gault, born circa 1873 in Pennsylvnia. The family lived in Oil City, Pennsylvania, where Earl was listed as a bookkeeper in a bank in 1910 (page 4B); as a clerk in a bank in 1920 (page 4A); and as vice president of a bank in 1930 (page 4B).
Children known from the federal censuses: (i) Benjamin G. McFate, born 30 May 1911 in Pennsylvania, died February 1983; last residence was Oil City, Pennsylvania (Social Security Death Index would suggest his wife was Carol G. [?], born 15 August 1916, died 19 May 2003; last residence being Oil City, Pennsylvania); I believe this Benjamin G. McFate was the Benjamin G. McFate who added the 1979 supplement to "History of the McFate Family;" (ii) William McFate, born circa 1914; and (iii) John E. McFate; born circa 1917. This from McFate (1888), page 13:
Benjamin, William and John, sons of Earl C. and Agnes G. McFate all (a) graduated from Oil City High School; (b) attended undergraduate school at the University of Michigan; (c) were members of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity; (d) were tapped by Michigamua, the Senior Men's Honor Society; (e) graduated from the Michigan Law School; and (f) have since practiced law together under the imaginative name of McFate, McFate & McFate.
(e) Leal McFate, born circa 1884.
(f). Florence A. McFate; born May 1890; died 16 August 1979; married Loy Braham. In 1920 and 1930, Loy and Florence, no children, were living in Oil City, Pennsylvania, where Loy was listed as a bank clerk in 1920 (page 1A), and as bank teller in 1930 (page 8B).

In 1880, Robert, single, enumerated as as a United Presbyterian Minister, was living in the household of his brother Samuel G. McFate in Cornplanter Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania (page 448).
