65. SAMUEL5 MCFATE (Samuel4 McFate, Jane3, John2, Unknown1); born circa 1837; married ELIZA FIELD of Ontario, Canada. Samuel was a Civil War veteran, 142d Pennysylvania infantry, wounded at Fredericksburg.1111
66. JANE5 H. MCFATE (Samuel4 McFate, Jane3, John2, Unknown1); born March 1839 in Pennsylvania; married JOSEPH MCCLINTOCK, born 28 January 1810 near Venice, Washington County Pennsylvania; died 7 March 1879 in Chase City, Virginia. There is a picture of Jane (McFate) McClintock with two of her grandsons in the “Life Story of Joseph and Jane (McFate) McClintock.”1112 I have not been able to place this Joseph McClintock with our Oil Creek McClintocks. Reverend Joseph McClintock, an ordained Presbyterian minister, was a son of William McClintock, born circa 1760; died 12 January 1826, and Hannah [—?—] McClintock, born circa 1767; died 11 January 1826 (one day before Joseph died).1113 Possibly Joseph had another wife, Maria, as reported in Howard Verschell’s 14 June 1997 email: “Jane McFate was apparently not Joseph’s first wife; Edwin found while tracing his grandfather’s ministry, in a cemetery near Montville, Pennsylvania, two gravestones, the larger of which is inscribed: In Memory of Maria, Consort of Rev. Joseph McClintock, Who departed this life April 17, 1834, In the 30th Year of her age.” The smaller stone was that of an infant son. I have not been able to associate Joseph or his parents, William and Hannah McClintock, with our McClintock line. According to Howard Verschell (see Acknowledgements) , William McClintock came to Muskinghum County, Ohio, in circa 1815, from Washington County, Pennsylvania. Both William and wife Hannah are buried in Shannon Baptist Cemetery, near Frazyburgh (Muskinghum County), Ohio, and their stones (moved to Woodland Cemetery, Hutchison plot, Xenia, Ohio) are the source for their death dates. Howard Verschell lists, in addition to Joseph, six other children of William of Hannah McClintock: (1) James McClintock, married 1827; (2) Robert McClintock; (3) William McClintock, married 1828; (4) Alexander McClintock; (5) Elizabeth McClintock, born circa 1796; died 1863, did not marry; (6) Hannah McClintock, born circa 1805; died 25 August 1828. “The Life Story of Joseph and Jane (McFate) McClintock” reports that Joseph studied theology at Cannonsburg Seminary, Pennsylvania, and was licensed by Chartiers Presbytery [present–day Allegheny County?] in 1843. His charges were mainly in Ohio and Pennsylvania, including Utica and Cooperstown in Venango County. Many of his sermons had the theme of retaining the Seceder insistence of closed communion. Reverend McClintock was one of the founders of Westminster College (New Wilmington, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania), and in 1855 was elected President of the Board of Trustees of Westminster College. For some time at least, Joseph, Jane and family made their home in the hamlet of Worth, Lackawannock Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Excerpts from Joseph McClintock’s diary are included in his biography. Below are entries made during a visit to the Oil Creek area in 1863:1114 June 30th 1863. 7. oclock A. M. Started in co. with Professor Patterson to Oildom, having Barry [his horse] to P’s buggy. Had dinner at Hendersonville – Went through Franklin – called for lodging at the 2d hotel we found in Oil City, but it was a wretchedly mean dirty concern – No bag for Barry – Oats 90 cents per lb. hay $30 per ton and none to be had at that – Walked up to the bridge on oil creek astonished at the improvements made within a year – heard fine music on 2 violins & 1 accordion – slept on a damp suffocating room – Got up at 5 1/2 in the morning of 31st for some thing else – Went up to Rouseville – waited 2 hours to see a man – Drove up to John McFate’s place (Mr. Curtins) [someone had pencilled in that John McFate “died 17 May 1868”] reached there at 12 ocl. Went to the oil well at the River then to Mr. Shaws, then to Mrs. McFates [someone had pencilled in "Jane’s mother"]. Put up for all night. Let Barry into pasture til 9 oclock, then tied him to a limb of an apple tree til morning. Started to Humbolt Oil works, next to Rouseville. Had dinner there. Came up to Robert McFates [someone had pencilled in “prob. Jane’s brother”] – staid over night. July 3d Started to the oil well at Walnut Bend – saw some men there, made a little arrangement for farther correspondence about the oilwell – Came up and had dinner at Mr. Shaws. Started home – reached Mercer É. . . .There was a Joseph McClintock mentioned in an 1860 land deed1115 reporting James Story, Joseph McClintock, and Joseph Patterson leasing land in Cornplanter Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, from Samuel Tolls for $1500 dollars. This Joseph McClintock was probably Joseph McClintock, husband of Jane McFate. In 1850, Joseph, apparently not married, was living with a George and Martha Leslie and the Leslie children in Shenango Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, where Joseph was enumerated as an associate preacher. In 1870 Joseph, Jane and family were in Lackawannock Township, (Worth Post office) Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where Joseph was listed as a minister. By 1880, Joseph had died, and Jane and family were in Blue Stone, Mecklenburg County, Virginia—no occupations listed for Jane or children. By 1900, Jane and children Joseph and Lillian were in Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois.1116

The family lived in Kingsville, Ohio in 1880, 1900 and 1910; when Washington was listed as a farmer—by 1910, Washington and Almira were living with their married daughter Gertrude Gee in Kingsville. By 1920, Washington had died, and Elmina, widow, was living with her daughter Gertrude Gee and her family in Kingsville, Ohio.1121.

Anzlow’s parents were Benjamin and Mary (Salgiver) Snodgrass.1122 In 1880, "Angello" (sic = Anzlow), Mary, and children Robert and James were living in Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, Michigan (page 396), where Anzlow was enumerated as a laborer. In 1900, Anzlow, Mary, and son James were living in Detroit, Michigan, where Anzlow was enumerated as a brakeman on the railroad, and James as a laborer. They were next door to Anzlow and Mary’s son Robert.1123 By 1910, Anzlow had died, and Mary (enumerated as Jane E.) and son James, a farm laborer, were in Augusta, Washtenaw County, Michigan (page 8A). Mary and son James were still in Augusta, Michigan, in 1920 (page 3B).

A GenServ report1128 has a James R. Culbertson, born 24 March 1868 marrying 14 September 1893 Maude Milligan, born 24 June 1872; she was a daughter of Robert Milligan. The GenServ report does not mention locations. The same report has a Hugh McClintock marrying a Nellie Milligan, born 13 January 1785. She was a daughter of John and Mary (Adams) Milligan. 78. LOUISA5 A. CULBERTSON (Robert4, Francis3, John2, Unknown1); born November 1848; married WILLIAM WILLINGS, born circa 1840. He was a son of Richard and probably Maria [—?—] Willings, born circa 1806,1129 of Venango County, Pennsylvania.1130 In 1870, the family was enumerated in Ypsilanti Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan, and were living near Louisa’s sisters Mary (Snodgrass) (#76) and Isabella (Mason). In 1880, Louisa’s mother, Mary Carey Culbertson, was living with Louisa, William and family. In 1900, William and Louisa were still in Augusta Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan.
