George P. Espy's picture is on page 645 of Bell (1890); and the information on George P. Espy is from a biographical sketch of George PAGE Espy in Bell (1890), page 1083; and from George P. Espy's will, written 7 August 1885, recorded 4 June 1894. The sketch reports him born 9 December 1817 in Kittanning, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, but dying in 1863, the latter being erroneous.
415.
From Hanson and Hanson (1995); Mary Jewell's birth date from the 1870 federal census of Cornplanter Township, dwelling 43, family 42.

This is surmised from a quit claim document (Venango County Deed Book N, page 406, instituted 14 December 1854, recorded 15 December 1854), in which ". ..I Mary Espy, intermarried with George P. Espy of Cornplanter township. ..for $1800 dollars paid by William Jewell. ..release and forever quit claim ..." a tract of land of Elerkin Jewell who died in Sandy Township, and his wife Catherine. Further support that Mary Jewell's parents were Eliakim and Catherine Jewell comes from information received in 2005 from Alice E. Morrison (see Acknowledgements); she reports that "Eliakim Jewell was a soldier of the War of 1812. He died prior to 1856 and his widow, Catherine, remarried to a Walter Braden. At Eliakim's death, she had two daughters who were minors. George P. Espy was appointed guardian for these girls. (Venango Co. Orphan Court Docket 1, pp 423, November 1856)"

There was another George Espy in Venango County in the nineteenth century. He was George R. Although James B. Skinner (Sr.) did not mention James B. (Jr.) in his will (see under Alexander McClintock, #77), there is good evidence that they were father and son. In 1850, James B. Skinner (Jr.) was enumerated with wife Nancy and children in dwelling #19, which was two dwellings from the James B. Skinner (Sr.) (#17) in Cornplanter Township There is at least one deed that refers to James B. Skinner as James B. Skinner, Jr. This deed is between G. W. McClintock and wife Angeline to James B. Skinner, Jr., all of Cornplanter Township (Venango County Deed Book R, page 667, instituted 7 July 1860, recorded 28 September 1860) (FHL film 864549). Also, James B. Skinner's (Jr.) will, written 1879, confirms that he had a first wife, see text.
