(Rachel4, Hamilton3, Hugh2, Francis1); born 20 June 1850 in Troy Township, Crawford County; died 21 January 1928 in Erie, Pennsylvania; married 25 January 1881 ANNA JANE CARMAN, born February 1859 in Pennsylvania, died in Meadville, Pennsylvania.604 She was a daughter of Samuel (born 9 February 1832) and Lucinda Graff Carman, Venango Township, Crawford County.605

Possibly Benjamin and Anna separated, because in 1900 Anna was living with husband Warren Jones, born August 1845 in Pennsylvania and children Rodney C. Hazen (step-son), born December 1884; Cecil Jones, born August 1895; and Mildred Jones, born March 1896.606 In contrast, in 1900, Benjamin G. was enumerated as an employee in the household of Henry A Hass. In 1910 and 1920, Benjamin G. was living in the household of Herbert Hayes in Summit Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, where he was enumerated as a servant in 1910 (page 11B) and as hired help in 1920 (page 3A).

In 1910, Henry and Rachel was living by themselves in Venango Township, Crawford County (page 2A), where Henry was enumerated as a department store merchant.

Child of Henry and Rachel (Hazen) Boyles:

310 i. Urban6 Stanley Boyles; born 16 October 1886 in Venango County or is it Venango Township, Crawford County; married 20 October 1909 in Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, Donna Irene Peiffer, born 24 September 1887 in Venango Township, Crawford County. In 1920 (page 20A) and 1930 (page 12B) Urban and Donna were living in Erie, Ward 4, Pennsylvania; no children reported in either census. Donna's mother, Louise Peiffer, born circa 1854 in Pennsylvania, was with the family in 1920. Urban was enumerated as a merchant, part owner of a wholesale specialty house in 1920 and as a "sales manager, aluminum" in 1930.

In 1900, Albert and wife Bertha were living with John’s parents in West Mead Township, Crawford County, no children listed.619 In 1910, Albert and Bertha were enumerated with children and were living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Albert was enumerated as a collector for a telephone company. In 1860, Plummer was not living with his parents, but was living near his parents in an inn, run by J. L. Colgin in Cornplanter Township.622 Also living in this inn in 1860 was Samuel Culbertson (see #28 of “Culbertsons”), a son of Francis and Mary (Steeples) Culbertson.   315 i. David6 H. (or M.) McClintock; born November 1891 in Pennsylvania. In 1920, David, single and living with his parents, was enumerated as a clerk for an engine company. This David was associated with a private school in 1930. No children were listed in 1930, but there was a "niece," Gean Scott, born circa 1914 in Pennsylvania; enumerated as a cook in a private school.

163. JUDSON5 ELLSWORTH MCCLINTOCK (Hugh4, Francis3, James2, Francis1); born circa 1862 in Pennsylvania,624 died 20 August 1919 in Los Angeles, California (see his obituary); married 25 January 1888, in Franklin, KATHERINE MOFFETT,625 born circa 1867 in Ohio, a daughter of Byron and Phoebe Marsh Moffett. Judson and Kate’s marriage license lists Judson as a bookkeeper IN Oil City. Judson would have been born about the same year that his father died. The birth places of Judson and Kate McClintock’s children would indicate the family moved several times. In 1910 the family was in Franklin, Pennsylvania, where Judson was enumerated as a messenger in a the boiler works.626

From Franklin (Pennsylvania) Public Library, obituary abstracts, Venango Citizen's Press (Franklin), 10 March 1920:

Children of Judson and Kate (Moffett) McClintock:627

316 i. Bryon6 McClintock; died late December 1918 or 1 January 1919 in Los Angeles, California. His obituary states he “was the older son.”628
317 ii. Fred H. McClintock; born circa 1891 in Pennsylvania.(See Judson’s obituary above.) He was possibly the Fred McClintock, born circa 1891 in Pennsylvania, who was living in Santa Rosa, California, in 1930 with wife Ramona [—?—], born circa 1902 in California, and daughter Dellora McClintock.629 This Fred McClintock was enumerated as lab superintendent of a distillery.

321 iii. Mary (May) J. McClintock; born July 1862 in Pennsylvania; married (first) 19 September 1882 Francis (Frank) M. Weikal; born August 1863 in Pennsylvania. Their marriage announcement lists Frank as a farmer, with both Frank and May from Dempseytown [Oakland Township].640. Mary J. and Frank did not have children. I have not been able to associate Frank Weikal with the [—?—] Weikal who married Alma G. McClintock (#334) or with the Michael (Martin?) Lamey Weikal who married Josephine Fleming (#159 of “Flemings”), but suspect all three Weikals were related.

Frank and Mary J. lived in Oakland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania in 1900 and 1910, where Frank was listed as a farmer in 1900 (page 4B) and 1910 (page 8A). A 1930 federal census record for Oakland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania (page 1B) lists Frank M. Weikal and wife (second wife?) Maud M. Weikal, born circa 1870 in Ohio. At this time Frank was enumerated as a laborer, odd jobs.
322 iv. Rosa M. McClintock; born May 1866; alive in 1906, re obituaries of her parents and 1900 Pennsylvania soundex for McClintocks.641 Perhaps she was the “Mrs.” Rose McClintock “of Oil City,” died 22 May 1923; buried in her brother William’s plot in Franklin Cemetery.642
323 v. John Frank McClintock; born August 1869 in Pennsylvania; died 30 March 1947;643 buried in Bethel Cemetery, Oakland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania;644 married 30 October 1895, in Franklin, Sylvia May Carter, born August 1868 in Pennsylvania; died 24 April 1940; buried in Bethel Cemetery.645 Their marriage license lists Sylvia’s parents as James and Martha Carter, both John McClintock and Sylvia Carter being reported residing in Dempseytown, Venango County.646

In 1900 and 1910,647 John and Sylvia were enumerated in Oakland Township, Venango County; no children were listed at these times. In 1920 (page 4A) and 1930 (page 5B), still in Oakland Township. John F. Sylvia were listed with one child.

John F. McClintock was a farmer. His will is in Venango County, Pennsylvania, Will Book 37, page 486.
Child of John and Sylvia May (Carter McClintock):
(a) Frank J. McClintock, born circa 1911 in Pennsylvania.648
324 vi. Adam McClintock; of Greeley, Colorado, as indicated in the obituary of his father.

Also living in Francis A. McClintock’s household in 1880 was a Mary Strawbridge, “sister–in–law,” age 5, and Mary J. Strawbridge, “niece,” age 8.

165. JOHN5 S. MCCLINTOCK (James4, Francis3, Hugh2, Francis1); born circa 1828;649 died 1888 in Titusville, Pennsylvania; married (tentative) PAMELA POPPLEWELL, born June 1847 in New Jersey, died February 1915 in Titusville, Pennsylvania.

John S. McClintock was enumerated in 1870 in Titusville, born circa 1828, with wife Permelia and son Edward, and then in Cherrytree Township, Venango County in 1880, with Permelia, Edward and Jennie Alice.650 At least three land deeds651 between John S. McClintock and wife Pamela (with one transcribed as Permelia) and Jerusha McClintock (administratrix) confirms that the John S. of Titusville in 1870 and of Cherrytree Township in 1880 was the John S., son of James McClintock. John S. McClintock probably had a first wife, Eliza Davidson (#132), who died in the 1860s. I can not find documents definitely showing two different John S. McClintocks in Venango County and Crawford County at the same time. There is an 1852 land deed, which lists James McClintock (John’s father), and Jerusha McClintock (John’s step–mother) selling land in Cornplanter Township to John McClintock, both of Cornplanter Township; there was no mentions of wives.652

After John S. McClintock died, Pamela married J. W. Garcelon, died circa 1912.

Titusville Herald, 15 February 1915:653
On Saturday evening Mrs. Pamela Garcelon, widow of the late J. W. Garcelon, a resident of this city for the past 50 years and a lady well known to the older residents of Titusville, passed away at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Fred Hoffman, 163 N. First St. For the past eight months Mrs. Garcelon had been ailing and a short time ago her condition became so alarming that it was thought best to remove her from her West Walnut Street residence to the home of Mrs. Hoffman.

The deceased was born 68 years ago last June and was the daughter of Benjamin and Anna Popplewell. In the middle 60s the family came to Titusville and lived there until death called the various members.

The deceased was twice married. Her first husband was J. S. McClintock who died this city in 1888. She again married, this time to J. S. Garcelon who passed away about three years ago.

She is survived by one son, Edward P. McClintock of Clearfield; her only daughter, Mrs. Jennie Dunkin, having died 24 years ago. She is also survived by the following grandchildren: Mrs. Fred Hoffman, and R. L. Dunkin, of this city and Naomi, Ellen and Maizee, of Clearfield.

Mrs. Garcelon was a lifelong Spiritualist in her religious faith. She was a quiet lover of her home and family and her death will be mourned by many.

Her funeral was held at her daughter’s home and she is buried in Greenwood Cemetery. Titusville death records state that she died of cancer of the liver, that her father was Benj. Popplewell (sic) and she was born in New Jersey.
Known children of John and Permelia (Popplewell) McClintock:654

325 i. Edward6 P. McClintock; born August 1867 in Pennsylvania; married Effie [—?—], born April 1867 in North Carolina.

The family lived in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, in 1900 and 1910, when Edward was enumerated as a superintendent of a toy factory.655 The family was in Rutland Township, Rutland County, Vermont in 1920 (page 11B), where Edward (as Edwin) was listed as manager ?__ shop. In 1930, the family was in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (page 26A), where Edward was listed as a cabinet maker.
Children of Edward and Effie McClintock known from the federal censuses:
(a) Marzee McClintock, born June 1895 in Pennsylvania.
(b) Ellen McClintock, born circa 1901 in Pennsylvania; married [—?—] Collins. In 1930, Ellen, divorced, was living with her parents in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was enumerated as a stenographer.
(c) Naomi McClintock, born circa 1905 in Pennsylvania; married [—?—] Strong. In 1930, Naomi Strong was living with her parents in Philadelphia, where she was listed as a student nurse. Living next to the McClintocks in 1930 was J. William and Teresa McCrackin and two children and grandchild Nadine Strong, born in Vermont (father born in New Jersey, mother born in Pennsylvania). Possibly she was a daughter of Naomi (McClintock) Strong.
326 ii. Jennie Alice McClintock; born 1870; died circa 1891; married 21 January 1887 Joseph Dunkin, born 1861. Their 1887 marriage license656 lists Jennie Alice McClintock from Titusville and Joseph Dunkin, a machinist, from Oil City.
Children known from Jennie’s mother, Permelia Popplewell (McClintock) (Garcelon), obituary:
(a) Mrs. Fred Hoffman.
(b) R. L. Dunkin.

166. MARY5 ANN MCCLINTOCK (James4, Francis3, Hugh2, Francis1); born 13 April 1829; died 17 January 1889; buried in Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Pennsylvania; married (first) HIRAM B. GORDON,657 born 1829; died 2 May 1866; buried in the Franklin Cemetery;658 married (second) HENRY A. STRONG, in circa 1871; he was born circa 1845 in Connecticut.

In 1860, the family was living in Oakland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, where Hiram was listed as an artist (a mistake?).659 Hiram Gordon’s will was written 7 April 1866, recorded 31 May 1866; he left his entire estate to Mary, no other names being mentioned.660 Hiram B. Gordon, husband of Mary Ann McClintock, would probably be the Hiram B. Gordon, who in 1864 was Register for the Probate of Wills, Venango County, and granted letters of administration to John W. Steele and Robert McFate, 22 March 1864, regarding the will of Sarah (McKnight) McClintock (see #68).

In 1869, Mary Ann Gordon, one of the heirs of the estate of James R. McClintock, petitioned the court to cite Jerusha McClintock, administratrix, for not settling the estate. A citation was issued 3 March 1869.661 In 1870, Mary Ann Gordon of Franklin sold land in Oakland Township to Jerusha McClintock for $2,400.662

In 1880, Mary Ann and second husband Henry Strong were living in Erie, Pennsylvania, with children of May Ann and Hiram B. Gordon. Henry A. was enumerated as a teacher.663 Henry A. and Mary Ann apparently did not have children.

Venango Spectator (Franklin, Pennsylvania), 29 March 1872:664
Married on Friday, March 22, by Rev. John Peate, H. A. Strong, formerly principal of the Franklin Union School, to Mrs. M. A. Gordon, of Franklin.
Citizen Press (Franklin, Pennsylvania), 24 January 1889.665
Death of Mrs. H. A. Strong - The Many friends of Mrs. H. A. Strong in this city were pained to learn that she had died suddenly at her home in Erie, on Thursday morning, Jan 17th. The cause of her death was neuralgia of the heart. For several years she had suffered from severe neuralgic pains, which were of more frequent occurrence of late. A short time since, Major Sheldon McClintock, of Wilmington, Pa., a brother of Mrs. Strong, died of heart disease and his death troubled her, and but a few days previous to her death expressed the belief that she would die in a similar manner.

Mrs. Strong, whose maiden name was Mary Anne McClintock, was a daughter of the late Col. James McClintock, of Dempseytown, this county. She married Hiram B. Gordon, who was subsequently twice elected Register and Recorder of this county, and who died in this city May 2, 1866. Of their four children, Ida (Mrs. John A. Wilson) and H. J. Gordon, live in this city, and two daughters, Misses Emma and Hattie, reside in Erie. Deceased was a half sister to Homer McClintock, of Oil City and C. A. McClintock, of Dempseytown. About 1871, Mrs. Gordon was married to Prof. H. A. Strong, who had been superintendent of the public schools in this city and was prominent in educational affairs. Having read law and been admitted to the bar, Mr. Strong subsequently removed to Erie, where he has been engaged in law practice for about nine years.

The remains were brought to this city on Friday and funeral services were held at the M. E. Church on Sunday afternoon, but the interment, which was in the Franklin Cemetery, was not until Monday afternoon, owing to the non-arrival of expected relatives

Children of Hiram B. and Mary Ann (McClintock) Gordon:666

(Columbus died 29 February 1920; whereas the federal census for his location was taken 14 and 15 January 1920.)672 Also living with the family in 1910 was Margaret's mother, Mary Kean, widow, born 1824 in Pennsylvania. Also in the family in 1920 was Columbus's sister, Angeline McClintock, born circa 1844 in Pennsylvania.
