Introduction(April 2006 update) The two volumes of my 1999 book The Oil Creek Flemings of Venango County, Pennsylvania, with related families McClintocks, Culbertsons, Jamisons, Lytles, Morrisons, Watsons and Henderson are out of print. I have been updating each of the eight surnames for online versions. All web site versions are now online: Oil Creek Flemings. Oil Creek McClintocks and Culbertsons. Oil Creek (and Westmoreland County) Jamisons. Oil Creek Lytles. Oil Creek Hendersons. Oil Creek Watsons and Morrisons. Our McClintocks were in Venango County, Pennsylvania, before the turn of the nineteenth century, having come to the Oil Creek area at about the same time as our Flemings.1 The McClintocks came from what is present-day Perry County, Pennsylvania. Before that they were in Chester County, Pennsylvania. One would suspect they came to North America from the north of Ireland. Unlike the surnames of many of our Venango County ancestors, any McClintocks encountered before the oil excitement of the 1860s, at least north of the Allegheny River in Venango County, were most likely McClintocks of our line. The founder of our McClintocks in North America appears to have been Francis McClintock, who was probably born in the north of Ireland. He died about 1791 in East Nottingham Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Francis McClintock married Jane [—?—]. I have no information for Jane except she was alive when Francis's will was written 21 May 1787. ![]() taken in summer 1998 by Karen G. Rodgers (Oil City, Pennsylvania). |
